'Fortnite' software update news: Big surprises await players in new update

New "Fortnite" update 2.5.0 brings players new characters and new weapons to choose from. Epic Games

The popular co-op survival shooter "Fortnite" is one to always look after its dedicated players and now in a new display of affection for its fan base, it is serving up a whole lot of surprises integrated within its new 2.5.0 update courtesy of its maker Epic Games.

The update, which came later than hoped, has now arrived for all supported console platforms -- the PlayStation 4, PC, and the Xbox one. This patch will see new weapon additions and huge changes for the Save the World and Battle Royale modes.

First off, Players have now been handed a new type of weapon called Impulse Grenade -- it is a brand-new type of bomb that blasts opposing players in proximity far from the user.

Another game changing aspect the update brings is the addition of "Shrines." Users will be able to retrieve items from these loot houses. It will be hidden across the terrain map and will house the new Impulse Grenade.

The patch also sees the debut of new characters and weapons for the Save the World mode -- all in line with the recent Lunar New Year.

Aside from this new integration, Save the World will also serve as a host to a new in-game event called "Spring It On." During this event, new quests and events will be made available for players to access.

Apart from this mode changes, Epic Games also brought resolution improvements to the PS4 and the Xbox one. The standard console platforms have now been enabled with dynamic resolution and high-quality sampling, which makes gameplay run smoother.

The patch is now live for download. Players who want to read the full list of changes in the 2.5.0 update can access the announcement through here.

Fortnite is a co-op, tactical shooting game developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly. It saw its first outing into the gaming scene in July of 2017, and now has a reported 40 million players under its arsenal.
