'Flinthook' release date news: Game to drop on Switch next week

Indie game "Flinthook" to drop on the Switch next week Steam/ Flinthook

The highly acclaimed indie game "Flinthook" is finally dropping to the Nintendo Switch One next week courtesy of developer Tribute Games.

First released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms, the lovable pirate-adventure game has now been ported into Switch One, and will be available for retail on March 9.

Imbued with a nostalgic retro-art style, the action, adventure game takes players into space as the character Captain Flinthook -- a space-faring thief who plunders ships sailing across space.

In-game players will be tasked to deal from spaceships serving as levels and, as players go through each level, the difficulty increases and the items needed to be stolen also proliferate. In addition to this, players will be granted weapons to use against foes, which entails a hookshot and a gun to allow players to latch and swing off through the level with relative ease.

Early last month, Tribute Games announced the port of "Flinthook" to the Switch One and, seeing as it released not long after, fans were a little bit surprised. In last month's announcement, video game distributor Limited Run Games also confirmed that the game will also be available in a cartridge sometime in the future. However, specific details regarding the cartridge have not been made official yet.

"Flinthook" first burst into the action platformer scene in 2017, dropping to major consoles. It was dubbed as an indie darling for its visually striking retro-art style, which captivated gamers and critics alike. It was also given praises for its nostalgic premise that sees the protagonist Captain Flinthook, armed with a hookshot and a gun, flings through the levels to escape foes -- an aspect that is reminiscent of games in the past.

"Flinthook" will be made available on the Nintendo eShop next week on March 9. As of the moment, details regarding the value of the game have not been announced, but fans can look forward to it once the game drops next week.
