Grant Gustin's Barry Allen will once again prove his incomparable speed when "The Flash" returns for its sophomore season, which means that more exciting things will happen in Central City starting this fall.

During the recently concluded San Diego Comic-Con 2015, the lead actor revealed several things that fans of the show should look forward to in season 2. He said that Barry will be "in a dark place when we find him in Season 2 – it's going to be a long road to getting out of that and being the positive Barry again."

The actor also said that Barry will have a new mentor who will help him look for ways to maximize and utilize his powers. He also mentioned that his character will "mature over the course of this season and he'll start to feel like the hero that the city is treating him as."

There are several speculations that the original Flash Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears) will be Barry's new mentor. But while a new character will help Barry and the rest of his friends from S.T.A.R. Labs, several new ruthless characters will also come to Central City to make their lives difficult.

According to reports, former WWE superstar Adam "Edge" Copeland will portray the role of the Atom Smasher this season. The CW released the official description of Copeland's character, saying that Atom Smasher is "one of the most powerful enemies we encounter this season." He will allegedly arrive in Central City to kill The Flash using his immeasurable strength and his supernatural prowess to grow to a much bigger size.

Lewis Snart (Michael Ironside), the estranged father of Captain Cold (Wenthworth Miller) and Golden Glider (Peyton List) will appear this season as well.

Also, since things did not work out well between Barry and Iris West (Candice Patton), he will have a new love interest in season 2. At the SDCC 2015 panel, the series producers announced that "One Tree Hill" alum Shantel VanSanten will portray police officer Patty Spivot, the new partner of Detective Joe West (Jesse L.Martin) who will develop a crush on The Flash.

The CW will air "The Flash" season 2 beginning Oct. 6.
