'Fast and Furious 8' release date, plot news: Movie to film big scenes in Iceland?

It looks like several action-packed scenes in "Fast and Furious 8" will be filmed in Akranes, Iceland. A new report claims that a major artificial explosion, described to be the biggest man-made one in the country, will be staged there for the movie.

The scene will allegedly involve heavily armored vehicles shipped to the region not too long ago as well as a massive explosion that citizens of the city are extremely excited to see. It is yet to be filmed but the crew has been preparing for it.

Meanwhile, "Fast and Furious 8" is also looking to film in Cuba. Universal Pictures, however, is still in the process of making negotiations, although the production studio is very adamant to film there. The main filming location for the movie is New York.

In related news, actor Lucas Black will reprise his role as Sean Boswell in "Fast and Furious 8." The auto mechanic expert-slash-trouble maker appeared in "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" and the latest one, "Furious 7."

Three years ago, Black signed a contract with Universal Pictures making the roguish drifter a regular in the next "Fast and Furious" installments. This means that he will be appearing in the rest of the movies for the franchise as well.

Meanwhile, there are still talks about Eva Mendes returning as U.S. Customs agent Monica Fuentes in "Fast and Furious 8." The star played the role in "2 fast 2 Furious" and "Fast Five" and reports say that she will be back in the latest installment of the racing franchise to fight enemies in New York with Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson).

As for other "Fast and Furious 8" cast rumors, there's word that "Mad Max Fury" star Charlize Theron will play the role of the big bad to  give the film a fresh new start. Previous reports, however, indicate that Kurt Russell's Mr. Nobody, who appeared in "Furious 7,"  is stepping up to the plate as the protagonist in the film.

"Fast and Furious 8" hits the silver screen on April 15, 2017.
