After getting multiple acting nominations from the Primetime Emmy Awards and other award-giving bodies for the first two seasons, FX's "Fargo" has tapped two critically acclaimed actors to lead season 3.

In May, the network announced that "Trainspotting" star Ewan McGregor will topbill the latest installment of the black comedy-crime drama anthology. According to a report from Deadline, the Scottish actor will portray two central characters in the upcoming season.

The report stated that McGregor will take on the roles of Stussy brothers named Emmit and Ray. Emmit is dubbed as the Parking Lot King of Minnesota -- a  charming, self-made real estate tycoon -- while his younger brother Ray is a pot-bellied parole officer who blames his brother for all the unfortunate incidents in his life.

In early July, TVLine reported that "The Leftovers" star Carrie Coon will join McGregor in "Fargo" season 3. The actress will take on the role of Gloria Burgle, the chief of the Eden Valley police department. According to the character description, Gloria is "a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics." She is also described as a recently divorced mom "who is struggling to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people right in front of them."

FX Networks CEO John Landgraf talked about the plot of "Fargo" season 3 during the Television Critics Association panel in January, saying: "The third cycle will take place in 2010 so it will be not quite contemporary but quite recent, the most recent in terms of time frame of any installment of Fargo including the movie."

Meanwhile, the second season of "Fargo" earned multiple nominations from the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards, including the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Kirsten Dunst, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for Jesse Plemons and Bokeem Woodbine, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Jean Smart, and the Outstanding Limited Series for the show.

The third season of "Fargo" is expected to premiere in early 2017.
