'Fargo' season 3 premiere date, cast: new female lead for show confirmed

Carrie Coon as seen in "The Leftovers" as Nora Durst HBO

"The Leftovers" star Carrie Coon has been tapped to play the female lead role in "Fargo" season 3. She will play the role of Eden Valley chief of police Gloria Burgle.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Coon's character for "Fargo" season 3 is "a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics."

Gloria is a newly-divorced mother who finds it odd that people seem to prefer to communicate in front of a screen of a smartphone or a computer rather than directly or in person.

Coon is still very much involved in the HBO hit "The Leftovers" (currently in production in Australia) which is on its third and last season. This means that fans will see the actress both in "Fargo" season 3 and "The Leftovers" season 3 next year.

Coon will play opposite Ewan McGregor, who will take on dual roles in "Fargo" season 3. He will play as brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy. It is unknown what Gloria's connection is to the siblings.

Good-looking and successful, Emmit is known as the "Parking Lot King of Minnesota" while his brother Ray is a parole officer who blames his big brother for his unfortunate life. The rivalry of the two will drive the story of "Fargo" season 3.

"There is an old wound between them that sort of gets reopened and re-litigated, and that rivalry becomes contentious and that sort of puts all the events in motion," showrunner Noah Hawley told Entertainment Weekly.

"Fargo" season 3 will take place right after the events of the first season. Those who are expecting to see characters from the first season of the anthology are in for a bad news as no familiar face is set to return in the upcoming season.

"Fargo" season 3 premieres sometime next year on FX. Production is set to begin later this year.
