Word regarding a potential sequel to roleplaying game "Fable" has been spreading around both the internet and the gaming community. According to Eurogamer, news about Microsoft entrusting the upcoming game to Playground Games (the developers of popular racing game "Forza") has been one of the most popular speculations. However, Microsoft itself did not comment on the rumors.

Eurogamer went on to talk about the details they had received from anonymous sources, stating that the latest addition to the "Fable" franchise would supposedly be both a character and narrative-driven game with over 200 or so people working on it. The game is supposedly being work on in an office in Warwickshire but will not be seeing the light of day anytime in the near future.

Details aside, Eurogamer went on to speculate on Microsoft's interest in the "Fable" franchise, stating that it was probably the result of "Horizon Zero Dawn's" success on the PlayStation 4.

After the first two "Fable" games were released, an online free-to-play "Fable: Legends" was put into production. However, it never reached completion, and Lionhead Studios was shut down in 2016.

The fate of the "Fable Franchise" was left open-ended ever since.

Other video-game-centered news websites have also started looking in to the rumors of a new "Fable" game. Polygon is one of those websites. Similar to Eurogamer, they brought up Microsoft and Playground Games alongside speculations on whether the new "Fable" game would be something entirely new or a reboot of the older, more successful games in the franchise.

Polygon also reached out to Microsoft and Playground games for comments, however Microsoft responded by stating that they did not comment on rumors or speculations.

"Fable" is a fantasy roleplaying game that was first released for the PC and Xbox 360 in 2004. The game focused heavily on choices and the protagonists' moral alignment, making for gameplay that evolved around the main character's reputation. The game earned a lot of popularity and praise and went on to release a sequel titled "Fable II" in 2008.
