War is brewing for the Lyons when "Empire" returns for the second half of season 2. But this time, Lucious (Terrence Howard) is pitted against his own son.
Based on the highly emotional promo trailer for the upcoming return of "Empire" season 2, Lucious is determined to make his youngest son Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Grey) pay for betraying him and the rest of the family during the midseason finale.
"The next time I see you, I will kill you," the Lyon patriarch tells his youngest son in the promo video. But Hakeem does not seem to care about his father's threat when he pointed a gun at him.
Hakeem also earned the ire of his mother Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), who was equally upset with him when she found out that he voted to remove Lucious as the chairman and CEO of Empire in favor of Camilla (Naomi Campbell) and Mimi (Marisa Tomei). She uses a cue stick to scold her son.
Other notable scenes in the trailer show Lucious pointing an automatic rifle at a group of policemen who are about to arrest him, as well as a big car explosion.
Jamal (Jussie Smollett) is also seen in the trailer, and he seems to have a very emotional performance onstage. Meanwhile, his brother Andre (Trai Byers) appears to be having the most difficult time of his life. He is seen having a serious breakdown beside the crib that he and Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) bought for their child.
During the previous episode, Rhonda and her unborn child's life was put in danger when an unknown person pushed her from the stairs. Does the trailer reveal that she and her baby did not survive the fall?
By the end of the trailer, Lucious and Cookie are seen cuddling. This could mean that the two will do everything to get Empire back from their enemies when the series returns on Fox on March 30.
