FOX's breakthrough drama "Empire" will be back in less than two weeks, which means that fans of the hip hop musical will finally see what happens to Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) after his arrest in season 1.

The network recently released the official synopsis for the premiere episode titled "The Devils Are Here," which reads:

Season 2 picks up three months after the shocking arrest and incarceration of Empire Entertainment head Lucious Lyon. Still in federal lockup, Lucious is trying to run Empire from inside, while a headline-grabbing state prosecutor hangs her political ambitions on bringing him down -- no matter what it takes. Meanwhile, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) stages a star-studded #FreeLucious concert in his support, while scheming with Andre (Trai Byers), Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray), Anika (Grace Gealey) and the business savvy Mimi Whiteman (guest star Marisa Tomei) to finalize the hostile takeover of Empire."

Meanwhile, Lucious and Cookie's other son Jamal (Jussie Smollett) will do everything that he can to stop his mother and brothers from taking over their father's throne while he is still in prison.

TVLine recently shared the first look of the premiere episode in a series of photographs showing Cookie in different hairstyles. It also featured several pictures from the #FreeLucious concert, where Cookie herself also performs.

Because of her portrayal during the show's first season, Henson got nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category at the Primetime Emmy Awards this year. She and actress Viola Davis from "How To Get Away with Murder" could be the first African-American to win the coveted award in the history of the Emmys. Other actresses who are nominated this year include "Homeland" actress Claire Danes, "Mad Men" actress Elisabeth Moss, "Orphan Black" actress Tatiana Maslany, and well as "House of Cards" actress Robin Wright.

Aside from the Lyon family drama, "Empire" season 2 will also feature a stellar roster of guest stars who will appear in the upcoming episodes of the season, including Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, Ludacris, Reverend Al Sharpton, Andre Leon Talley, and Ne-Yo. Kelly Rowland is also confirmed to guest star as Lucious' mother in flashback scenes in the upcoming season.

"Empire" season 2 episode 1 airs on Wednesday, Sept. 23, on FOX.
