'Dragon Ball FighterZ' release news: Launch trailer, Android 21 revealed

Goku fights Frieza in a "Dragon Ball FighterZ" gameplay Bandai Namco

It is an exciting week for "Dragon Ball" fans. Arc System Works, the studio behind "Guilty Gear" and "BlazBlue," is releasing the new fighting game "Dragon Ball FighterZ," which is looking to be one of the best titles based on the popular anime and manga series. To fuel the already strong hype, publisher Bandai Namco dropped an intense launch trailer on Monday that would likely sway those on the fence into buying the game upon release.

The new promo put together plenty of gameplay, cinematic moments, and reviews, celebrating the game's quality and accurate portrayal of the legendary battles from the world-famous anime. It also gives the entire cast of the base game their time to shine as iconic characters like Goku, Gohan, Cell, Frieza, and more clash to determine the greatest fighter of all.

Along the launch trailer, the company also released an in-depth look at the second female character on the game's roster, Android 21. As seen in the video below, Android 21 transforms from a brown-haired girl with glasses into a powerful pink-skinned Majin. Her fighting styles and destructive combo are showcased as well to opponent Android 16.

Android 21 brings the "Dragon Ball FighterZ" total playable roster up to 24. Other characters include Piccolo, Krillin, Majin Buu, Vegeta, Tien Shinhan, Yamcha, Captain Ginyu, Nappa, Gotenks, Hit, Beerus, Android 16, and Buu. More will be added to the lineup via season pass post-launch.

Initial reviews are positive so far with GameSpot saying it is "designed to tap into the hearts of Dragon Ball's most dedicated fans, and no doubt those same qualities will win people over who have never given the series a chance." Others commend the simplified command inputs, accessible auto combos, and breathtaking visuals.

"Dragon Ball FighterZ" releases on Friday, Jan. 26, on PS4, Xbox One, and PC for $60. Check out the launch trailer below.
