The drama and scandal inside the lavish property of the Crawleys were palpable when "Downton Abbey" returned for its sixth and final season in the U.K. last Sunday, and it seems it will only get more intense in the coming weeks.

In the premiere episode, the Bates were seen dealing with another misfortune when Anna (Joanne Froggart) and her husband John (Brendan Coyle) experienced difficulty conceiving after going through two miscarriages in the past. The couple was worried that it would be hard for them to have a child, and it started to take a toll on the marriage.

Viewers of the show found it hard to watch Anna going through another heartbreak after everything that she has been through in the entire run of ITV's critically-acclaimed British period drama. If Anna does not conceive, there are possibilities her marriage could instantly unravel.

But things are not necessarily all about pain and suffering, even if the downstairs staff of Downton Abbey estate may find out that some of them may soon have to be let go. In the first episode, the resident servants claimed that the Dowager is planning to cut down on employees because of the family's current financial difficulties. Naturally, the estate's employees were saddened and concerned about their masters and ladies, but they were also afraid to find out if their jobs were at risk.

However, Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan) was worried about a different thing. She told her best friend Mrs. Patmore (Lesley Nicol) that she was worried about being intimate with her future husband Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) because of her physical insecurities. Good thing Mrs. Patmore decided to talk to Mr. Carson about it to tell him about her friend's concern. After learning that Mr. Carson really loves her friend, the estate's cook advised Mrs. Hughes to stop worrying about her appearance and make sure instead that their union would be special. In the end, both Carson and Hughes felt that they are really meant for each other.

But the soon-to-wed couple will have another problem when "Downton Abbey" season 6 airs its second episode. CarterMatt recently released the synopsis for the episode, which reads:

As planning for their wedding gets underway, Lady Mary's meddling gets Mr Carson into trouble with Mrs Hughes. Cora and Violet lock horns over plans for the hospital takeover. Thomas's job search continues with disappointing results. An idea of Mary's takes Anna to London and offers fresh hope. Edith faces challenges at the magazine but a problem closer to home reaches breaking point. What begins as a happy day out for the family and servants ends in panic and leaves Robert with a difficult decision to make."

Viewers can find out what happens next in "Downton Abbey" season 6 on Sunday, Sept. 27.
