The beginning of the end for "Downton Abbey" can already be felt, especially after the trailer for the sixth and final season was released in preparation for its premiere episode later this month.

The heart-tugging trailer shows Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) packing up his stuff while having a conversation with Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), who says, "If I could stop history in its tracks, maybe I would. But I can't, Carson, for neither you nor I can hold back time."

The head butler of Downton Abbey seems to be ready to move on from his job at the estate to begin his new life elsewhere, since he also takes off his name plate from outside his office door.

Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and her loyal servant Anna (Joanne Froggatt) are also featured in the trailer, as the two reminisce about everything that they have been through.

"We have had our moments, haven't we m'lady?" Anna tells Lady Mary, who replies, "We certainly have."

The final season of the critically-acclaimed British period drama is set in 1925, six months after the events that happened at the end of season 5. It was when Mr. Carson proposed to Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan), and Anna and her husband Bates (Brendan Coyle) were finally reunited after both their names were cleared from the murder of Mr. Green (Nigel Harman).

In the final scene, the Crawleys and their household staff appear to be looking back at the events that happened inside all the four corners of the estate.

The newest trailer for "Downton Abbey" seems to be showcasing a highly emotional series ender for the show, but series executive producer Gareth Neame earlier said that the show will feature happy moments as well.

"We wanted to close the doors of 'Downton Abbey' when it felt right and natural for the storylines to come together and when the show was still being enjoyed so much by its fans," Neame shared in an earlier interview with The Huffington Post. "We can promise a final season full of all the usual drama and intrigue, but with the added excitement of discovering how and where they all end up ..."

"Downton Abbey" season 6 airs in the U.K.'s ITV network on Sept. 20, while those in the U.S. have to wait until Jan. 3 in order to watch the new season of the show.
