Valve may be offering "DotA 2" in a new engine soon.
Early this week, VentureBeat spotted a SteamDB report claiming that the "DotA 2" multiplayer online arena battle game will include Source 2 content for Windows, Mac, and Linux. This is very exciting news, since Source 2 has been used by Valve as the engine of choice for some of its critically acclaimed games like "Half-Life 2," "Left 4 Dead," "Dark Messiah of Might and Magic," as well as "Portal."
While SteamDB mentioned that the Source 2 content for "DotA 2" is not yet running, it also stated the added improvements that Valve will introduce to the new "DotA 2" package without having to force all those who have the MOBA game installed.
The game developer has yet to release the details about how Source 2 engine support will improve the gaming experience for "DotA 2," but previous reports mentioned that the new engine can be beneficial when allowing community members to come up with new contents for the game, such as hats, accessories and other game-related items.
In March, Valve's Jay Stelly talked about how Source 2 can be useful for a game's update.
According to Stelly, "The value of a platform like the PC is how much it increases the productivity of those who use the platform. With Source 2, our focus is increasing creator productivity. Given how important user generated content is becoming, Source 2 is designed not for just the professional developer, but enabling gamers themselves to participate in the creation and development of their favourite games."
Other speculations about the benefits of changing "DotA 2's" engine to Source 2 include better game performance and additional items that will be hard to come up with if the original Source engine is still being used.
However, there is no information provided if Source 2 will improve the UI and graphics features of "DotA 2" once it goes live.
