Pearl Mackie has broken her silence after being announced as Clara Oswald's replacement in the role of the Time Lord's companion in "Doctor Who" season 10.
On Twitter, the West End actress revealed that she is already excited to be part of the "Doctor Who" family alongside the Twelfth Time Lord Peter Capaldi.
The announcement of Mackie's entrance to the show was made by Capaldi himself during Saturday's halftime of the FA Cup semi-final match between Everton and Manchester United on BBC One.
"It is a genuine delight to welcome Pearl Mackie to 'Doctor Who,'" the actor said during the announcement.
According to Capaldi's announcement, Mackie's character Bill could be described as very inquisitive, but she has no idea about Doctor Who's numerous adventures.
"Now we have someone who knows very little about the Doctor," the actor said.
Mackie also talked about her character in the press statement released by the network.
"Reading the script at the audition, I thought Bill was wicked. Fantastically written, cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in -- I can't wait to bring her to life and to see how she develops through the series. I always loved stage combat at drama school, so I can't wait to get on set and kick some evil monsters into the next dimension!" the thespian revealed.
Mackie, who is currently a part of the National Theatre's production of "The Curious Dog in the Night-Time," is the third non-white companion of the Time Lord in the series. The first one was Mickey Smith, who portrayed the role of Noel Clarke alongside Christopher Eccleston from 2005 to 2010. Freema Agyeman followed when she played the role of Martha Jones from 2006 to 2010 with David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor.
"Doctor Who" is slated to return to BBC One with new episodes for season 10 in 2017.
