'Destiny 2' expansion news: Third major expansion set for late 2018

A Wall Street analyst has recently disclosed that Activision's "Destiny 2" could be in a lot of trouble this 2018 Facebook/DestinyTheGame

"Destiny 2" is one of those popular first-person shooter games (FPS) that had a strong release but see a decline in players in the next months. Needless to say, the players are slowly starting to get discontented with the game. To address this, the developers — aside from the fixes they need to make — are planning to roll out not one, but two more expansions this year.

"We have a great expansion coming in May, and a major expansion coming at the end of the year, and those events have always been opportunities to re-engage our communities and win back people who have churned out," said Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg during an investor call, per Polygon.

Bungie has yet to release details about the second unnamed expansion this May so it is unlikely they will mention anything more for the third expansion. Nevertheless, people still come up with their own speculations as to what either of these expansions would contain. One of the most popular ones being a similar expansion to "The Taken King" for the first "Destiny" game.

"The Taken King" had added a lot of new features to the game. It included new enemies called the Taken, a new area called the Dreadnaught, the King's Fall raid, three new strikes and many more. One of the best ones that were added was a new subclass for each main class.

For "Destiny 2" to get the same kind of expansion would definitely do good for the game. And considering that the player count has been declining recently, the developers may just easily decide to do something similar for the second expansion. Otherwise, they would have to close out their first year with a huge content drop.

Bungie is putting a lot of efforts to "win back people who have churned out." At least they recognize the issue of their dwindling player base. It is now just a matter of coming up with solutions to address the problem.
