'Daredevil' season 3 release date news: New season could be delayed

"Daredevil" season 3 might not be here for a while. Netflix

"Daredevil" season 3 hasn't been made official by Netflix yet, leading fans to believe that it will be delayed. The miniseries "Defenders" is allegedly the streaming giant's priority.

"Daredevil" lead Charlie Cox as well as showrunners Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez will be involved in the miniseries, which is why "Daredevil" season 3 might be delayed.

"Defenders" is reportedly scheduled for an early 2017 premiere, so the show, which brings together Daredevil (Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones), is likely to go into production in the months to come.

What strikes as odd, however, is the fact that "Daredevil" hasn't been officially renewed for season 3. When the hit Marvel series premiered, it only took days for Netflix to order a second season.

That is basically almost a year prior to the actually release of the sophomore run. It's been three months now since the second season of "Daredevil" ended, but there's still no renewal in sight.

"Daredevil" season 2 featured Frank Castle also known as The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), who immediately scored a spinoff series.

The season was a hit as well, although not as much as the first season. However, it was a stellar enough of a run that could easily snag a renewal for "Daredevil" season 3.

Netflix is unpredictable when it comes to renewal timings. It can take worriedly long and extremely quick in ordering new seasons for its shows.

For "Jessica Jones," the company waited three months to seal the deal for a second run. Ritter is going to film it after working on "Defenders" so Cox might do the same should "Daredevil" season 3 become official soon.

Cox already has a story in mind for "Daredevil" season 3. He said in a previous interview (via Cinema Blend) that the show can't end without the character's iconic rival Bullseye.
