'Dance Moms' news: Mackenzie Ziegler to star in Brat's new series 'Total Eclipse'

"Dance Moms" alum Mackenzie Ziegler is set to star on Brat's new original "Total Eclipse." The digital network has given an 11-episode order to the series which will also star Ziegler's real-life best friend and vlogger Lauren Orlando.

The series, according to Variety, juxtaposes a run-of-the-mill high school with a "fantasy moon world" that lies in the imagination of a girl named Cassie. Ziegler will play the character which is described as a "dreamy teenager" ditched by her high school friends. Orlando, on the other hand, will take on the role of Kate –a witchy newcomer to the town.

Ziegler and Orlando will be joined by "Andi Mack" actress Emily Skinner, whose role has not been disclosed, as well as Nadia Turner and Devenity Perkins.

Brat's original series are primarily distributed on YouTube, where it has 1.3 million subscribers. The brand's co-founder, Rob Fishman, voiced his excitement in working with the aforementioned actress for what he called their "ambitious new endeavour."

"For the millions of viewers who watch these rising stars on a daily basis, Brat offers classic storytelling and production value unlike anything else available free and online," he said in a statement.

"Total Eclipse" marks Ziegler's latest acting gig. After rising to fame on Lifetime's reality dance show "Dance Moms" in 2011, she made her acting debut on Nickelodeon's sitcom "Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn" back in 2015. Ziegler has since appeared in some commercials including Wowwowee and General Electric, as well as talk shows like "The Today Show," "The View" and "Good Day New York."

More recently, the young star co-headlined the sold-out "Day & Night Tour" tour with Johnny Orlando. In May, Ziegler is set to publish her first book titled "Kenzie's Rules for Life."

"Total Eclipse" has no release date at the moment, but it is directed by Jeff Jenkins from a script written by Meg Favreau.
