'Criminal Minds' season 12 spoilers, cast: Paget Brewster teases she will be in 'a whole bunch of episodes'

Paget Brewster will be back in action as Emily Prentiss in "Criminal Minds" season 12. A multi-episode arc involving the character will be featured in the new season to pave the way for her comeback.

"Criminal Minds" star Kirsten Vangsness revealed the good news to the attendees of the San Diego Comic Con and it was quickly followed up by executive producer Erica Messer.

"We're excited to have Paget Brewster back for multiple episodes in our 12th season," she said in a statement picked up by Entertainment Weekly.

"The BAU can use more help this year since they've got a lot of known and unknown subjects to catch," she went on to say, referring to last season's prison breaks that resulted to a group of serial killers now at large.

Brewster has also been tweeting about her return in "Criminal Minds" season 12. In one tweet, she expressed her joy to reunite with the people she worked with, saying "I'm so excited to be back with you, my friends."

For those who have forgotten, the actress debuted as Emily in season 2 of the series and bid goodbye after season 7. She popped by the show twice ever since her exit. In another tweet, she teased that she will be in "a whole bunch of episodes this year." It was not revealed by Brewster or the folks from the show exactly how many episodes of "Criminal Minds" season 12 Prentiss will be in.

According to Zap2it, Brewster's return was made possible partly because her scheduled was cleared when her show with John Stamos titled "Grandfathered" (she was a series regular) was cancelled by FOX after its freshman run.

Brewster's return is something "Criminal Minds" fans have been waiting. It is also something that Messer always believed will happen.

In an interview with TV Guide earlier this year, the EP said that they tend to "leave that door open for people to come back and play."

"Criminal Minds" season 12 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
