Will CM Punk return to WWE? 'Who knows what the future holds?'

Will the mass clamor for CM Punk's return to the WWE ring finally lead to the reconciliation between the wrestling federation and one of its prodigal stars?

Fans have been chanting CM Punk's name since he left the WWE Universe last January, but the management and the wrestling Superstar are still tight lipped about his possible return.

Punk and WWE shared bad blood with each other, which was worsened when the wrestler allegedly sent a 22-page lawsuit to the organization a couple of weeks ago.

On their end, WWE muted the fan cheers for the Chicago-born wrestler during the recent RAW event. WWE's Stephanie McMahon even went to the ring to hush down the chanting by asking the fans of the "longest-reigning WWE Champion of the modern era" why they always root for a "quitter." They even allegedly confiscated all the CM Punk signs from the fans during the event.

It was also reported that WWE opted to mute the chanting of his name during the first part of the WWE 2K15 roster reveal, by using a taped voiceover announcement instead of the original one.

With these in mind, it would be hard to expect that Punk would return to the wrestling arena soon. However, renowned WWE announcer pointed out his speculations about the retired wrestler's return.

"I wonder what the chance would be to see a CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar WM31 WWE Title [bout]? Stranger things have happened and that pairing would guarantee WWE a ton of new subscribers and likely ignite the PPV marketplace as well," the Hall of Famer wrote.

"Communication and money solve many ills and that would be a terrific main event considering that as it stands today WWE has major work to do in assembling what looks to be more of an ensemble card than one that is one or two main event heavy at this time. I'm sure that I'm not alone in wanting to see a Lesnar-Punk headliner at WM31 because it equates to big money for all involved," Ross added.

Even Stephanie McMahon believes that it is too early to tell whether Punk is really gone for good. In one of her press appearances on the WGN Morning News, Triple H's wife and Vince McMahon's daughter talked about Punk's possible return. She said, "We've had a lot of fun with him and who knows what the future holds."

No word yet came from CM Punk himself or his wife, WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee, if he will return to the ring any time soon.
