Cleveland Cavaliers free agency, trade rumors 2016: Team not letting go of J.R. Smith, swingman expected to re-sign

It looks like J.R. Smith is not going anywhere. According to the latest reports, he will re-sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason.

According to Bleacher Report, it will be more shocking if Smith opted out of the franchise, who earned their first NBA championship title this season against the Golden State Warriors.

The publication says that Smith already found a niche in the team and is not going anywhere with that in mind. Also, it is difficult to imagine him leaving Cleveland, as it seems that he has nowhere else to go.

With the killer Cavaliers lineup including Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, having Smith back is just something that is already expected as he is a key player in taking on the new Warriors with Kevin Durant on board.

However, at the moment, he is yet to officially re-sign. Cleveland.com reports that while "he's also still out on the market," all expectations point to him returning to the franchise along with Lebron James, who hasn't re-signed yet.

However, the fact that he is yet to sign a contract with the Cavaliers makes him a target for other teams. Rumor has it that Miami Heat will attempt to lure the veteran guard away from Cleveland.

For the uninitiated, Dwyane Wade chose to leave Heat in a decision that shocked many. Now, there's a big hole left to fill in Miami and a rebuilding process is inevitable.

Smith is one of the key players that Heat reportedly wants as they form a new lineup, but all odds suggest that Smith will still don the Cavs jersey next season. The Cavaliers are also determined to keep him.

As for why Smith and James haven't re-signed with the team yet, which is starting to worry some fans, Bleacher Report says that their agent Rich Paul is holding off for the right moment to bring them to the team as a package deal.
