Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) helps out an old friend in the upcoming episode of NBC's "Chicago Fire" season 5.

Titled "Carry Me," next week's episode will see one Firehouse 51 officer go out of his way to help a friend in need. According to the official synopsis, Casey resorts to drastic measures to assist his pal, Jason Kannell (guest star Kamal Angelo Bolden). Brian "Otis" Zvonecek (Yuri Sardarov) and Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) are forced to deal with surprises when they finally find a new roommate, while Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) use their skills to save a young girl. Meanwhile, Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) helps an old widow learn to let go, only to realize that he is the one who really needs help.

Earlier in the season, Severide decided to donate bone marrow to a cancer-stricken nurse named Anna (Charlotte Sullivan). The two forged a close bond and later on became a couple. After Severide saved Anna's life, she has since moved from Springfield to Chicago to be with him.

NBC released a new sneak peek for the episode and it opens with Severide spending some time with Anna. The next scene cuts to Anna thanking Severide for saving her life. Her fight against cancer continues, but it looks like her condition is getting worse day by day. At some point in the clip, Severide is seen rushing to the hospital, hinting that something might have gone wrong. The last moments of the teaser shows Severide sitting beside Anna's bed and gently touching her face. "I'm right here. We're gonna beat this," a teary-eyed Severide tells Anna.

The show's last episode saw Anna storm out of dinner with Severide and his father Benny (guest star Treat Williams). Sullivan recently spoke with One Chicago Center and although she could not reveal why Anna walked out, she did tease that the next few episodes will explore Severide's complicated situation.

"It's really difficult and tremendously emotional. Severide has a couple horrible episodes," the actress shared.

The fifth season of "Chicago Fire" airs every Tuesday at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
