'Charmed' reboot news: Remake happening at The CW but Holly Marie Combs is not happy about it

It is official: "Charmed," the show that brought witches into the mainstream, is coming back to the small screen. The CW has recently given a pilot order to a present-day retelling of the beloved show about magical sisters -- originally portrayed by Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty, and Rose McGowan.

According to the network, the incarnation of "Charmed" pretty much has the same premise as that of the 1998 version. It will focus on "three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches" but it will have a "fierce, funny, feminist" twist. Its official description reads: "Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch's work is never done."

The CW has been mulling over the idea of reviving the show for a while now. Last year, it announced a prequel series that would take place in 1976, but it never came to fruition. Fans have since celebrated the show's official return, but one of the original cast members was not too thrilled when she heard the reboot plans.

Combs, who played Piper Halliwell on the original show, threw a few jabs at the reboot after news broke that it got the go-ahead from The CW. "Here's the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don't even think of capitalizing on our hard work," she wrote on Twitter. "Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye."

She did not take the supposed "feminist" storyline well, too, as the original series has always been about girl power. It was not only headlined by women, it was created by one as well. "Guess we forgot to do that the first go around," Combs said. The actress did wish the "Charmed" reboot well in their attempt to recreate the magic of the original show, which ran from 1998 to 2006.

The CW's "Charmed" has no release date at this point. The new cast has yet to be announced as well.
