Treyarch, the developer of the action-adventure multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS) game "Call of Duty Black Ops 3," released an update featuring a new map (Redwood Snow) as well as a new game mode (Infected) on March 7.

Treyarch announced the news via Steam Community. The new map features the snowcapped landscape of Redwood Snow for players to experience.

The new game mode, on the other hand, named Infected features a randomly chosen player as the first infected at the start of the match. This is not the first time the Infected mode appeared in the "Call of Duty" franchise as according to Polygon, it first appeared first appeared in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" and later in "Call of Duty: Ghosts," "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" and "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare."The chosen player's goal is to infect other players who will respawn as infected. Players will either end up being infected or winning the game by means of surviving until time runs out.

The update also includes general performance updates and updated security. It is important to point out that the update is free so players will not have to spend money to try out the Infected mode or explore Redwood Snow.

According to the Steam page of the game, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" is an action-adventure FPS that combines three unique game modes (Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies) aside from the newly added Infected mode. It currently has three expansions — Zombies Chronicles, Season Pass and The Giant Zombies Map.
