'Avengers: Infinity War' cast news: Joe and Anthony Russo tease large number of characters joining films

 Marvel

Co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo made the already character-rich "Captain America: Civil War" look undersized after revealing at Wizard World New Orleans the bulk of heroes and villains they will include in the upcoming Avengers movies "Avengers: Infinity War."

"We have so many characters we're dealing with. We're breaking ground on Avengers: Infinity War. We have a board with 67 characters on it," the Russos revealed to the audience, as quoted by Comic Book Resources.

The directors did not provide details as to who will make up that hefty list but Comingsoon.net notes that counting all the major characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even the folks at the "Guardians of the Galaxy" only bring in at least 30 personalities.

In a Comicbook.com interview, Joe said that not all Avengers might not be around by the time "Avengers: Infinity War" begins so it is most likely that new characters will be introduced approaching Marvel's Phase Four movies.

The Russos' revelation regarding the hulking great "Avengers: Infinity War" ensemble seems to hint at Thanos's essayer Josh Brolin's statement back in 2014 where he said "It's Thanos against everyone."

It is being said that in the films, Mad Titan Thanos will be wreaking havoc in the realm and while a flurry of characters are banding together, the big baddie's love for death and murder should drastically minimize that number.

Joe said that the bulky ensemble will help them translate into film the concept of "Avengers: Infinity War" where "the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you've ever seen."

Joe and Anthony plan to design "Avengers: Infinity War" as the "incredible climax" to a decade of superhero storytelling. The "Avengers: Infinity War" movies will cap the Phase Four lineup of Marvel. The first part will be out May 4, 2018 and the latter part will be out May 3, 2019.
