'Avengers 4' cast rumors: Wolverine making a cameo?

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine Fox

Fox's Marvel superheroes will be making their way into Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe should the studios' merger be finalized and Wolverine could be the first-ever "X-Men" character to make his debut. A new report claims Hugh Jackman is reprising his role of Logan one more time to rub shoulders with the Avengers in the yet-to-be-titled fourth installment.

Jackman notably retired from the role after this year's critically acclaimed "Logan." However, Disney's acquisition of Fox may coax him out of retirement. According to reports, the deal is already done and the actor is willing to suit up once more.

Neither Jackman nor the studios have confirmed the matter, so it is best taken with a grain of salt for now. However, the actor already stated before that the only way he would return as the claw-wielding mutant is with the Avengers.

"The Avengers would prove too much to turn down," he said back in February. Apparently, Jackman wants to see his character team up with the likes of Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) "You never know. At the moment, honestly, if I really did have them there, I probably wouldn't have said this is the last," he added.

It is not just Jackman, though; the people from the MCU want his character, too. The Russo brothers, specifically, have once shared they both love Wolverine and would love to see him share the big screen with the Avengers.

At that time, the idea was still far-fetched, but as Disney and Fox's merger advances, a Wolverine cameo would not be impossible to pull off anymore. Fans can only keep their fingers crossed for now.

Disney and Fox have yet to confirm the completion of the acquisition, but the official announcement is expected anytime now. The $60 billion deal includes the sale of Fox's cable networks like Nat Geo and A&E, movie studios, and stakes on Hulu and Sky. What would remain at Fox will be its news and business divisions, broadcast network, and Fox Sports.
