Plot details about "Attack on Titan" season 2 remain scarce, but fans are expecting to see the return of the popular anime series in spring 2017.

The reported release date for the second season of Tetsurō Araki's animated adaptation of the best-selling dark fantasy manga series created by Hajime Isayama is set sometime in spring next year, based on the promo image posted on Shingeki.tv.

According to The Asahi Shimbun, the release date for the second season of the anime was initially scheduled for 2016, although the promotional image that was posted in July 2016 revealed that the series will come out sometime in 2017.

Based on the image posted on the show's website, Eren will be in his titan form as he faces the evil titan dubbed the Colossus. The Armored titan was featured in the image as well.

The first season revealed that Eren's father injected him with a serum that gave him the ability to transform into a titan. However, it was not revealed why his father decided to do so. This led to speculations that the reason why Eren's dad gave him the serum will be finally revealed in "Attack on Titan" season 2.

Other speculations claim that the Survey Corps will lose another important asset in the next season of the anime series. According to rumors, both Commander Erwin Smith and Eren's close friend, Armin, will be hurt at the same time. However, only one of them could be saved by the serum.

iTechPost revealed that Eren will plead to Levi to give the serum to Armin since Levi is more inclined to give it the commander. If Eren could persuade Levi to allow him to save his friend, it means that the Survey Corps will have to say goodbye to Commander Smith.

More plot details about "Attack on Titan" season 2 is expected to be released in the coming days.
