Ubisoft will be releasing a new "Assassin's Creed" with virtual reality experience, but it will not be a game.

The game developer announced through a Twitter post that they are working with Fox and visual effects studio Practical Magic on a new virtual reality experience based on the upcoming "Assassin's Creed" movie.

The post did not elaborate on the details, but it revealed that the project will be released this year. However, Polygon reported that Practical Magic VR President and Director of VR Experiences Matthew Lewis revealed during the Game Developers Conference that the VR experience was shot on location with the upcoming movie. The settings include Spain, Malta, and the United Kingdom.

Ubisoft's Michael Beadle said that the studio is thrilled for the VR project, saying: "We're excited about the announcement of the Assassin's Creed VR Experience and we look forward to working with New Regency, Fox and Practical Magic to share more in the future."

The upcoming "Assassin's Creed" movie will center on the adventures of Callum Lynch, as he goes back in time to recreate the battles of his ancestor named Aguilar de Nerha during 15th century Spain.

Michael Fassbender will portray the roles of Callum Lynch and Aguilar de Nerha in the movie. He is joined by Jeremy Irons, who portrays the role of Abstergo Industries CEO and Inner Sanctum of the Templar Order member Alan Rikkin.

French actress Marion Cotillard will also join the film as Rikkin's daughter, while Brendan Gleeson will portray the role of Lynch's father in the film.

Other cast members of the film include Michael K. Williams, Matias Varela, Carlos Bardem, Denis Menochet, Javier Gutierrez, Hovik Keuchkerian and Ariane Labed as the member of the 15th century Spanish Brotherhood of Assassins member named Maria.

The "Assassin's Creed" movie is slated to come out on Dec. 21, while the "Assassin's Creed: VR Experience" project could also be released around the same date.
