Production for "Arrested Development" season 5 has been moving slowly, but co-producer Ron Howard recently gave an update on the show's anticipated installment.
Creator Mitchell Hurwitz has been discussing a theatrical release and a possible revival since "Arrested Development" originally ended in 2006. Earlier this year, co-producer Brian Grazer announced that a fifth season is indeed happening. He also claimed that talks were already happening with the cast members, adding that deals are expected to be made in a few weeks.
Months have already passed after Grazer delivered his statement, but up to now, the cast have not yet signed on for season 5. Co-producer/narrator Ron Howard was at the Tribeca Film Festival carpet for National Geographic's "Genius" — a project he is also producing — and he was asked about the status of "Arrested Development."
"We're very eager to do more," Howard told TV Guide. "Mitch has great ideas as to what the episodes would be, and we really hope we get to do it."
Possibly the toughest part of producing season 5 is getting the original cast back together. Most of them have since become huge celebrities, which means finding time in their busy schedules to film the show is quite difficult. In fact, scenes in the 2013 Netflix revival were often shot without the actors in the same place.
"It's really tough to get everybody, everybody's schedules together," the producer added, "but we're working on it."
Although the stars' schedules play a huge part in the show's delay, it does not necessarily mean they are not on board with the revival. Tony Hale spoke with the hosts of ABC's "Good Morning America" on Wednesday and he said things are "looking good" for the upcoming season.
"We're all on board," Hale stated. "We want to do it, and I kind of want to see what happens to my sweet girlfriend Liza Minnelli on the show, who I love. I kind of want to know what happens with that storyline."
Hale plays Buster Bluth, the socially awkward son of Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter) and George Bluth Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor). He once dated his mother's rival, Lucille Austero (Minnelli), on the show.
