'Ant-Man and the Wasp' plot rumors: How the Soul Stone could turn up in the sequel

"Black Panther" debunked the popular theory about the last Infinity Stone's location, leaving "Ant-Man and the Wasp" as the next candidate for its potential reveal if it does not show up in "Infinity War."

As reported previously, speculation was rife it could be somewhere in Wakanda, explaining T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and the previous Black Panthers' ability to communicate with the spirits or soul of those who bore the title before who have since passed on. This is apparently linked to the Soul Stone's ability to grant its owner access to souls of the dead in an idyllic, heaven-like pocket universe. It also explains the Mad Titan's apparent arrival in Wakanda in the "Infinity War" trailer.

However, the film confirms it is not the case. The last Infinity Stone is nowhere to be seen in the movie; it is not even mentioned. Now, many believe the powerful gem could turn up in "Ant-Man 2" instead.

The sequel will center around the return of the original Wasp and Hope's (Evangeline Lilly) mother, Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), who has been stuck in the Quantum Realm. The theory posits the stone could be hidden in there too, and that Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and the current Wasp, Hope, would stumble across it in some way. As Comic Book pointed out, this would give the film more significance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Then again, this is just one of the many theories about the Soul Stone's location. Another popular theory claims it may show up in "Captain Marvel." It could be the reason why the Kree and Skrulls are at war. In any case, fans will have to wait and see.

"Avengers: Infinity War" opens in theaters on May 5 while "Ant-Man and the Wasp" premieres on July 6. As for "Captain Marvel," it will not hit the big screen until March 6. 2019.
