'American Horror Story' season 6 release date, spoilers: New teaser hints at 'Children of the Corn' plot for next season

A new, "Children of the Corn"-themed teaser has been released for the sixth season of "American Horror Story."

The 15-second clip, titled "The Lesson," features several students oddly sitting in a cornfield while pounding their desks at the same time before they simultaneously dart their vacant eyes upward. This is based on the hit horror movies created by Stephen King about a town haunted by young murderers.

However, this does not mean that the plot for the sixth installment of the critically acclaimed horror anthology series is inspired by "Children of the Corn." According to FX boss John Landgraf, most of the promos for the upcoming season are actually a decoy.

"They went out and made many more trailers than you've actually seen for hypothetical seasons of American Horror Story," Landgraf said during the Television Critics Association summer panel earlier this month, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. "Different genres, different places. I think they're really fun and funny and beautifully, artfully made ... and a lot of them are accurate. The others are all misdirects."

Meanwhile, MTV reported that actor Evan Peters was recently spotted sporting red hair while grabbing coffee in West Hollywood. This prompted speculations that the actor had dyed his hair for his next role in the upcoming season of "American Horror Story." However, the actor has yet to reveal what his role will be in season 6.

Aside from Peters, other popular "American Horror Story" alums confirmed their appearance in the upcoming installment of the series, including Angela Bassett, Cheyenne Jackson, Matt Bomer, Kathy Bates, and Lady Gaga. Sarah Paulson, on the other hand, has yet to confirm if she will be back in the show.

While the plot for "American Horror Story" season 6 remains a mystery, fans of the series could expect to hear more details about the show before its return on FX on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
