The wait for the Radeon RX 490 graphics card may still take a while since manufacturer AMD has yet to make an announcement about its official release date.

Speculations claim that the upcoming next-generation graphics card will make its way to the market in the first half of 2017. However, the California-based semiconductor company remains mum about the development of its upcoming graphics card.

Reports claim that the possible release date of the new Radeon RX 490 will depend on the type of GPU that it will use. According to PCGamesN, AMD is planning to release the next-generation Radeon RX with the Vega 10 GPU.

If AMD will stick with their plan, the new Radeon RX 490 will possibly come out sometime next year. But if the semiconductor manufacturer will opt to stick to the Polaris GPU just like the currently available Radeon RX 480, then the highly-anticipated graphics card could possibly come out sooner than expected.

Some say that AMD can use the Polaris dual-GPU to power up the new Radeon RX device if they want to release it before the end of 2016. However, using the soon-to-be-released Vega 10 architecture could be a more practical decision since it provides better support compared to the other GPUs in the market.

But since the Vega 10 is expected to come out in early 2017, it means that the Radeon RX 490 can only be manufactured after the GPU's release.

Meanwhile, Videocardz revealed the possible specs of the upcoming Radeon RX 490. According to the report, the base clock of the graphics card is at 1200 MHz, while its memory clock is at 350 (1400) MHz. It will also have 9,830 GFLOPS of computing power.

The upcoming Radeon RX 490 is also expected to have an 8196 MB HBM2 memory size with 4096-bit memory bus width and 716.8 GB/s memory bandwidth.

AMD is expected to reveal the release date of their next-generation graphics card in the coming days.
