Is Drew Goddard spearheading the next installment of the "Amazing Spider-Man" franchise?

Rumors have been going around online claiming that "The Cabin in the Woods" writer/director is currently meeting with the executives from Sony Pictures and Disney Films to discuss his possible involvement in the next "Spider-Man" film.

Goddard is also known as the man behind the script of some of the critically acclaimed movies, such as "Cloverfield" in 2008 and "The World War Z" in 2013. He will also write the scripts for two films that are scheduled to come out this year, including "The Martian."

The news about Goddard's participation in the next "Spider-Man" film was exclusively announced by Latino Review early this week, after an alleged reliable source told the website that the reported "Sinister Six" movie has been scrapped. However, it is rumored that director Goddard is still working for Sony Pictures to write and direct the upcoming "Spectacular Spider-Man" film.

Meanwhile, Ecumenical News reported that Spider-Man's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe could mean that actor Andrew Garfield's stint as Peter Parker/ Spider-Man will likely end in the next movie. Although Garfield managed to create a successful stint as the web-slinging hero in the two "Amazing Spider-Man" installments, it is possible for the film studios to look for a new actor to fill in the role for the reboot.

Goddard and Sony Pictures are still mum about the validity of the reports at the moment, but Sony recently confirmed the reports that they are working with Marvel Studios to include Spider-Man in a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is speculated to be the upcoming "Captain America 3: The Civil War" movie. In the film, Captain America and Iron Man will have a massive disagreement over the new rule of the government to register the names of the superheroes to regulate their activities.

The next "Spider-Man" film will be shown on July 28, 2017.
