Part of the game's synopsis reads: "In this brand-new, hilarious Adventure Time story, gamers play as Finn, Jake, Marceline, and BMO to explore fan-favorite kingdoms, and meet the well-loved characters from Cartoon Network's popular TV animation series. The game starts with a flooded Land of Ooo, in which familiar kingdoms are cut off from each other by rising waters."

Players will not only be playing as Finn and Jake, but according to Outright Games, will have the chance to play as side characters Marceline the Vampire Queen and the beloved robot companion BMO.

Finn and Jake can also recruit more allies along the way. On a side note, it is unclear whether or not players will be able to control the allies or whether they will be AI-controlled.

Some of the key features listed by Outright Games includes:

An open-world for players to explore at their will, art-style similar to that of the shows (but in 3D instead of 2D), multiple playable characters, and an original story created solely for the brand new game.

Aside from that the game will also feature tactical combat However, no information on the combat mechanics have been released as of yet. There will also be a system called Hero Progression and lots and lots of pirates.
