Prototypes for the 2019 Range Rover Evoque have been spotted testing in Europe. Spy shots reveal that the next-generation compact crossover has adopted several design cues from Land Rover's midsize crossover, the Velar.

Based on the latest pictures, the second-generation Evoque will have a cleaner and more streamlined appearance.

Despite the prototype still being covered in camouflage, new design elements for the compact crossover can be seen. These include slimmer headlights and taillights, a unified honeycomb grille, deployable door handles and a straight bonnet shut line. The taillights also now extend to the tailgate, which gives the rear a wider appearance.

Meanwhile, the 2019 Range Rover Evoque will maintain the same coupe-like silhouette of its predecessor. The second-generation compact crossover will use an overhauled version of the D8 architecture. The changes will translate to longer and wider dimensions as well as improved ride comfort and more legroom for rear passengers.

The use of the D8 architecture will mean that the 2019 Range Rover Evoque will be compatible with the automaker's new turbocharged four-cylinder Ingenium diesel and petrol engines. The powertrains will be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Base models will receive a front-wheel drive but an all-wheel-drive system will be available for higher trims. The 2019 Range Rover Evoque may also receive off-road technologies and active torque vectoring.

Though aging D8 platform may not be able to accommodate an electrified powertrain, the Evoque will still reportedly be the first Land Rover vehicle to receive a mild hybrid powertrain. It is said to feature a 1.5-liter three-cylinder Ingenium engine, a small electric motor and a 48-volt battery pack — similar to the Evoque concept introduced in 2015.

The 2019 Range Rover Evoque is expected to make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
