'13 Reasons Why' news: Netflix adds warning to series; stars talk possible season 2

Will Netflix renew "13 Reasons Why" for season 2? Facebook/13reasonswhy

Netflix will soon be adding warnings to the controversial new drama "13 Reasons Why."

Released in March, the series is an adaptation of Jay Asher's best-selling novel centered on teenage suicide. The 13-episode pilot season has garnered attention not only from fans and critics but also from concerned educators, parents, and psychologists. Many believe that the show glamorizes the concept of suicide and it could inspire young viewers to copy the lead character's actions.

The network has now taken further actions to keep viewers from having a copycat behavior. Netflix promises to add an additional viewer warning card before the premiere episode as an extra precaution to those who will be watching the complete series.

"There has been a tremendous amount of discussion about our series '13 Reasons Why.' While many of our members find the show to be a valuable driver for starting an important conversation with their families, we have also heard concern from those who feel the series should carry additional advisories," reads a statement from Netflix.

Despite the controversies surrounding the program, many are still wondering if "13 Reasons Why" will be picked up for another season. Season 1 has been tweeted by fans over 11 million times since March 30, so a sophomore run now seems all but assured.

Cast members Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford recently made their talk show debut on "Ellen" this week, and they were asked about the series' possible renewal. Minnette said they still "don't know yet," adding that the world will probably know about the renewal before they do.

TV Guide notes that the actor may just be playing it coy, as Netflix is reportedly preparing to announce the renewal anytime soon. Given the show's huge success, it is highly unlikely that the streaming service will not order another season of "13 Reasons Why."

More details about the show are expected to be revealed in the coming days or weeks.
