Another powerful adult leader will be introduced in "The 100" when it returns for its third season.

In the sophomore season of The CW's post-apocalyptic drama, two members of the so-called Ice Nation suddenly appeared while the members of the Grounder Clan gathered for an event. Little is known about the Ice Nation, but it is expected to be given a bigger story arc in season 3, indicated by the casting of their powerful ruler.

The Entertainment Weekly recently reported that Brenda Strong was tapped to play the role of the Ice Nation's Queen Nia.

Strong can be remembered as Mary Alice Young, the iconic narrator in Marc Cherry's comedy-drama mystery series, "Desperate Housewives." Her character was an essential part in the series' story, since her death by suicide became one of the main mysteries of the entire show.

In "The 100," she will reportedly portray Nia, a character described as someone who had been ruling the entire Ice Nation for the longest time. She manages to keep her seat by "holding onto power through ruthlessness and savvy." Nia is also described as a type of leader who "does what she must to maintain her power, even when it puts her at odds with those closest to her."

The inclusion of the Ice Queen in the series, as well as the members of the Ice Nation, could either be a good or bad thing for the current line-up of characters in the series.

Will Clarke (Eliza Taylor) learn more about the Queen of the Ice Nation when the series returns early next year? It can be remembered that Clarke decided to walk away from it all after all the events that happened in season 2, particularly the betrayal of Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey).

It will also be interesting to see how Lexa will deal with Nia if they ever have a chance to know each other, especially since they almost have the same personality.

"The 100" season 3 is slated to premiere early in 2016.
