Yankees trade rumors: Ivan Nova, Michael Pineda going to Texas Rangers

More members of the New York Yankees might still be on the move as the deadline for trading looms closer this weekend.

iSportsWeb revealed that Yankees pitchers Ivan Nova and Michael Pineda could be in the trading block for any team who still needs to strengthen their pitching line-up.

Nova recorded a 2-0 with a 2.66 ERA during his last two starts, while Pineda managed to start with a 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA and 16 strickeouts in his own last two starts.

According to the report, one of the teams that could be interested to take the Yankees' offer could be the Texas Rangers since the team's starting line-up is burdened by injuries. By the end of June, Colby Lewis and Derek Holland were both placed on the 60-day disabled list due to strained right lat muscle and left shoulder inflammation, respectively. This only leaves Cole Hamels, A.J Griffin, Nick Martinez, Yu Darvish, and Martin Perez in rotation.

However, Nova's expiring contract could be a problem if he will be traded to another team, since below-average starting pitchers who will face the end of their contracts may not give them the fatter end of the trading deal. On the other hand, Pineda is still under contract for another year, and his strong strikeout rate which records a little under 11K/9 might make him a standout in the trading market. This could make the Rangers consider to get him before the trading deadline expires on Aug. 1.

But according to FOX's MLB correspondent Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees are willing to hear out all options in the trading block. "We're not playing in a narrow-minded world...We want to be open to any and all ideas - buy, sell, long, short. It's in our best interests to be creative and open-minded, not just now," the sports correspondent said on Twitter.
