'Yakuza Kiwami 2' trailers, gameplay news: Sega shows off new Goro Majima campaign and improved visuals

The trailers for "Yakuza Kiwami 2" are finally here, giving players their first look at the upcoming game. While it's a remake of the original "Yakuza 2," Sega made sure to include a number of new gameplay features and new story elements to fill in the plotholes from the original game.

The first promo is dedicated to the story, the original version of which is arguably deemed the best of the series. This time, Sega added an all-new campaign titled "The Truth of Goro Majima" which will allow players to play as the series' anti-hero Goro Majima himself. As "Yakuza" series writer Masayoshi Yokoyama and director Daisuke Sato previously teased, the new scenario aims to expand the events first explored in "Yakuza 0," giving more depth to the Mad Dog's character. According to RPG Site, the additional "volume" in his story would be more extensive than Nishikiyama Akira's from "Yakuza Kiwami."

The second trailer, on the other hand, showcases the new gameplay that is more attuned to later games in the "Yakuza" series. It gave a nice look at the improved combat courtesy of the upgraded Dragon Engine that powers the game. According to Dual Shockers, there are also a few features including a bigger and better Clan Creator and hostess club management, as well as the inevitable minigames — from toilet video games to arcade and karaoke, and even a new and spicy gravure photography play spot.

"Yakuza Kiwami 2" is scheduled to launch exclusively for PlayStation 4 in Japan in time on Dec. 7, just in time for the holidays. Release dates for the West and Europe have not been announced yet. However, Sega reportedly conducted a survey regarding its localization recently.

Considering the Western release date of "Yakuza 6" in March 2018 is over a year after it originally launched in Japan, perhaps players will see "Kiwami 2" later in the year.
