Windows 10 release date, features and latest specs revealed: Spartan browser

Microsoft's recent event finally answered several speculated details about the company's upcoming operating system, Windows 10.

One of the most revered features of Microsoft Windows 10 is the HoloLens, which happens to be the first venture of the Redmond-based software giant into the virtual reality market that is currently led by Google and Facebook. This technology will reportedly work well with the universal apps featured in Windows 10.

According to earlier accounts about the HoloLens, the head-mounted device can let users see different subjects in 3D using see-through lenses.

Also, Microsoft's famous virtual "personal assistant" Cortana is also confirmed to be included in the new Windows software months after it was first speculated. Cortana can be easily accessed through a dedicated search panel located in the task bar.

Based on the demo showed during the recent Microsoft press event, Cortana has the capacity to get information about its users so that it can provide more personalized support. This can be customized using the dedicated Cortana Notebook.

The new web browser called Spartan was also mentioned during the event. According to the company's representatives, the new and improved Microsoft web browser will be featured on PCs running the Windows operating system before it heads over to the Windows Phone.

With this browser, users can make notes on different web pages using a finger or a pen using the "Note Taking Mode" before they can opt to share or save it in their files. Cortana and Spartan also work well together, as the virtual assistant can present several suggestions regarding different topics directly from the browser.

In addition, Microsoft's executive vice president of operating systems Terry Myerson announced that within the first year of Windows 10's release, the company will be giving free upgrades to all Microsoft OS users who have Windows 8.1, Windows 7 as well as Windows Phone 8.1.

The new operating system is expected to be rolled out sometime later this year.
