While FOX has yet to make an official announcement about the renewal of "Wayward Pines" for season 3, the network's big boss believes that the series should return for another season.

In an interview with Slash Film, FOX Television Group Chairman and CEO Dana Walden said that the mystery sci-fi thriller should have a season 3 despite the ratings decline in its second season.

"It's still the number one scripted show of the summer," Walden said. "It struggled. Most shows struggle year to year. We don't know yet what we're going to find when the multi-platform numbers roll up, ultimately how big that audience is. I think I'm sharing a point of view of Night's that the first couple episodes were trying to find its way in a reset. By sort of the third episode on, it really hit its stride. It's hard when you have to reinvent a series each season."

Walden also revealed that he already saw the pitch made by producer M. Night Shyamalan and series creator Chad Hodge for the show's third season and said that he liked their idea. This makes it more possible for the network to consider renewing the series for season 3.

However, the network has yet to consider a lot of factors regarding the show's ratings during its sophomore season before Walden can make the announcement for "Wayward Pines" season 3 renewal. They still have to calculate the numbers that it received in its DVR viewing as well as the network's online streaming.

But Walden is hoping that they can finish the computation before Shyamalan becomes busy with other projects.

"I know that Night's schedule is busy. We also have almost all the information we need. We just want to see a few more of the delayed viewing platform results," she added.
