'Wayward Pines' season 2 release date, spoilers: latest promo shows students perform David Pilcher-inspired play

The First Generation reveres Toby Jones' David Pilcher so much that he has inspired a play participated in by the students of Wayward Pines Academy. This is the subject of the new "Wayward Pines" season 2 promo.

The biggest takeaway from the new teaser for "Wayward Pines" season 2 is that the creep factor will be higher as the First Generation does everything to preserve Pilcher's legacy.

The creepy musical sees youngsters dressed in suits, dresses and tree costumes singing about the beginning of a new future and a new world in Wayward Pines. As the students crooned about the false potentials of the crazy little town, the true horrors in it flashed in the clip.

In the "Wayward Pines" season 2 promo, fans see a glimpse of Carla Gugino's Kate handcuffed to her bed, presumably being prepared for an unauthorized experiment she most definitely won't like.

Jason Patric's Dr. Theo Yedlin also seems to have stumbled upon the secrets of the town earlier than any new resident ever managed to. For starters, he already encountered one of the aberrations or abbies as he made a run through the town.

In "Wayward Pines" season 2, the focus of the government led by Tom Stevens' Jason is about intensely preparing the First Generation to be the new leaders and originators of the town.

Hope Davis' Megan Fisher brings in a dead abbie in front of the class to teach them more efficiently about the creature. Also part of the education is watching a dangerous experiment performed by some people regarded as the professionals.

The person being experimented is not very keen on being a test subject. Paying attention to Kate's situation in the "Wayward Pines" season 2 promo, it is safe to say she will end up as one of the guinea pigs as well.

There is also a glimpse of Djimon Hounsou's CJ Mitchum killing an abbie with a flamethrower while fans also see Charlie Tahan's Ben Burke inquisitively exploring what appears to be a field where abbies seem to thrive.

"Wayward Pines" season 2 premieres May 25 on FOX.
