Megan (Hope Davis) believes that "there's something anthropological" with the Abbies so she studies the creatures in "Wayward Pines" season 2, episode 5 "Sound the Alarm."

The Wayward Pines Academy teacher experiments on the first female abbie that was caught in the "Wayward Pines" season 2 trailer.

Unlike Megan, Jason (Tom Stevens) believes that the abbies are simply "animals" and certainly not a "lost tribe." However, the leader of the First Order could be dead wrong.

Having lived the last 12 years outside the walls that separate Wayward Pines from the rest of the world (or at least what was left of it), Adam Hassler (Tim Griffin) believes that the abbies are replacements of humans.

However, Megan's motivation to discover all about the abbies is far from being able to understand the creatures, but to kill them, as she revealed in the "Wayward Pines" season 2, episode 5 trailer.

Griffin teases that "Wayward Pines" season 2 will delve into the origins of the abbies, who may not be as unfriendly as they were projected in the first season.

Hassler has been around them for more than a decade. He has learned a great deal about the abbies as he was out there exploring the remnants of humanity.

In the trailer for "Wayward Pines" season 2, episode 5, Hassler can be seen speaking with Theresa (Shannyn Sossamon), who wants to live the rest of her days outside the walls.

Theresa's family is gone and Hassler knows she is out there because she wants to die. It remains to be seen what will happen to the Burke matriarch, but there's a reason to worry.

"Wayward Pines" season 2 has been relentlessly killing off the characters from the first season. It is only a matter of time before Theresa and even Hassler's time is up, unless of course there's more for them to do or discover.

Meanwhile, the upcoming episode of "Wayward Pines" season 2 will also see Rebecca (Nimrat Kaur) reveal her connection with Wayward Pines founder David Pilcher and also a secret that will shock her husband Theo (Jason Patric).

"Wayward Pines" season 2, episode 5 "Sound the Alarm" airs Wednesday, June 22 at 9 p.m. ET on FOX.
