The newest cast member to appear in "Wayward Pines" season 2 has finally been named. "The Lost Boys" star Jason Patric was tapped to be the hit show's latest addition who will lead in the continuation of the story.

[Spoiler alert for those who haven't watched the first season]

Patric will be the newest lead actor following the death of Matt Dillon's character Ethan Burke in the finale of the first season.

Patric will play the role of a "confident, driven surgeon" named Dr. Theo Yedlin, as described by The Hollywood Reporter. His skills as a leader will bring into play in "Wayward Pines" season 2, where the First Generation has taken over.

Theo will be the direct replacement of Ethan, who, in the "Wayward Pines" season 1 finale, sacrificed his life to prevent the abbies from reaching the residents as they attempted to escape. FOX is also looking for stars to play the role of Theo's "underground rebel" wife and a teenager who is a member of the town's "new brain trust."

There will also be three recurring characters in "Wayward Pines" season 2. Details are still inaccessible regarding this though. It also remains a mystery whether or not there will be characters from the first season that will return in the new season. After all, FOX is choosing to reboot the series considering what happened in the finale.

"Wayward Pines" was designed as a one-off limited series. It was not supposed to last beyond 10 episodes. But the positive reception of fans towards the show, which is based on Blake Grouch's hit "Wayward Pines" books, made a second season possible.

In the "Wayward Pines" season 1 finale, there were a lot of questions left unanswered and mysteries left uncovered. Fans hope that in "Wayward Pines" season 2, they will be able to know more about the year 4028, how the small crazy town came to be and how the abbies came to exist.

The new season is set to air summer 2016.
