'Venom' movie 2018 release date, plot rumors, trailer: Carnage to appear, Woody Harrelson to play murderous symbiote

Sony's new anti-hero film "Venom", which stars Tom Hardy as the host of the alien symbiote, is causing a huge swirl of rumors to erupt online with talks of another equally terrifying alien lifeform to grace its premises -- Carnage.

The talks of a possible on-screen cameo from the red symbiote can be traced back to a report from "That Hashtag Show".

An unnamed source confirms with the "That Hashtag Show" that Carnage will play no significant role in the body of the film, but he will grace the screens as a post-credit surprise.

As the source explains, titular character Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) will find himself in San Quentin prison in the post-credit scene. There, he will be introduced to Cletus Kasady by Dr. Ashley Kafka. Near the end, Brock's symbiote produces an offspring that slowly makes its way to Kasady before ultimately fading into black.

Comic Book Resources argues that with the post-credit sequence being open-ended, it will give the movie powerhouse Sony an opening to introduce Carnage as another separate film or make an appearance as the story develops.

Aside from this interesting lead, "That Hashtag Show" also had someone in mind that could potentially play the murderous symbiote Carnage.

Earlier reports revealed that Woody Harrelson was cast to play a character in the new Venom film last year -- specifically as a "henchman" of sorts.

But despite his casting, Harrelson was not present in any production or set photos, which leave many to speculate that he will be playing the psychopathic alien symbiote in future sequels.

Earlier this February, the initial trailer for Sony's "Venom" dropped, incurring mixed reviews from critics worldwide.

The new film in Sony's Marvel universe will be released late this year in October.
