'Vampire Diaries' season 7 spoilers: Salvatore brothers to deal with another love triangle after Elena exit

 The CW

The biggest love arc in "The Vampire Diaries" ended last season, with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) losing Elena (Nina Dobrev) when she was cursed to deep sleep as long as her best friend Bonnie (Kat Graham) remains alive. Now, Damon will reportedly find comfort in his brother Stephan (Paul Wesley).

The Salvatore brothers went through a lot in the past seasons of the supernatural drama series, and they even fought over Elena's love during the first season. But will they get into another love triangle plot now that Damon is single again?

In a recent interview with Seat42F, executive producer Caroline Dries revealed that the brothers will once again fight over another woman's love and attention. But this time, the two will compete against each other for their mother's love.

"It is a question of who is the third point in the Salvatore love triangle and that person is basically their mother," the executive producer shared. "We have Lily (Annie Wersching) becoming an integral part of this Mystic Falls world. Lily has come back into their lives and now exists in their world and there will be all kinds of points of view on her. She has a way of loving them and manipulating them and handles each of them differently; so this season becomes about their core family and can they all live in peace."

But it seems like the Salvatore brothers are not the only ones who will seek Lily's affection. Dries said that Damon's long-time best friend Enzo will also vie for Lily's attention since it was revealed that she was the one who turned him in the past. This will not sit well with Damon, and it could possibly put a strain on their friendship.

Meanwhile, executive producer Julie Plec revealed that they will feature several time jumps in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7.

"We're picking up a little bit in the future, we're picking up a lot in the future, we're doing a little bit of a time shuffle as we launch into the season. One timeline is set very much in the future and the other timeline will catch us up to the events of the final scene of last season." Plec said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly
