Tactical roleplaying game (RPG) "Valkyria Chronicles" is coming back with the fourth installment in 2018. The western release of the well-awaited game will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch and it will reportedly be returning to its more strategy-oriented roots.

According to Kotaku, the latest game will be set in alternate Europe during the Second World War, similar to the games that came before it. Gameplay will involve a mix of turn-based combat and third-person shooting and, similar to its predecessors, players will be guiding a group of soldiers with different strengths and weaknesses, stats, and abilities across different battlefields.

The announcement trailer for the upcoming game was uploaded to Nintendo's YouTube channel on Nov. 20. It begins with a group of friends who are thrust into combat during the Second World War, their town is under attack and it is time for them to act. The group is thrown headfirst into battle and players will be met with moral dilemmas and heart-breaking battles all in the name of peace.

Reportedly, the game takes place during the same time as "Valkyria Chronicles" but instead of playing as the characters from the first game, players will be in control of a new cast: Commander Claude Wallace, Engineer Riley Miller, Sniper Kai Schulen and others.

A synopsis for "Valkyrie Chronicles" is available on its Steam page.

"Set in a fictitious continent reminiscent of the 1930s, Valkyria Chronicles depicts Europa, divided and ruled by two superpowers: the Empire and the Federation. The Empire has set its sights on invading the principality Gallia, which shares its borders with the two superpowers, in an attempt to secure an invaluable natural resource, Ragnite."

The first game followed the journey of Squad 7 as they fought against the empire. While "Valkyria Chronicles 4" will no longer center around Squad 7's journey, the story is set in the same world.

"Valkyria Chronicles" will be released sometime in 2018.
