'Uncharted' movie cast rumors: Tom Holland as Nathan Drake? 'Spider-Man' actor teases involvement

The long-due live-action adaptation of the game "Uncharted" may have already found its Nathan Drake in Tom Holland. The "Spider-Man: Homecoming" actor recently dropped the biggest hint yet that he is portraying the character and is now preparing for his upcoming role.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Holland posted a video of an "Uncharted" game screen, captioning "For research purposes." The video has since been deleted, but Twitter user Cade_Onder was able to take a video of Holland's posting. Check it out below.

Based on the video game series developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony, "Uncharted" has been discussed since 2009. A number of writers, producers, and actors have been attached to the project before only to withdraw due to other commitments so it never moved forward.

Among the actors who were previously tipped to be the film's lead are Chris Pratt and Nathan Fillion, the latter of whom has even launched a campaign on Twitter to support his pursuit of the role. Mark Wahlberg was also attached at one point, but he later confirmed he will no longer be involved in Naughty Dog's movie.

Holland has been rumored to star as Nathan Drake since this summer after it was revealed that "Uncharted" will be a prequel to the video game series. It is unclear why the actor removed his social media posting, but chances are it was because Sony has yet to formally announce his involvement. As to when that will be remains unknown as well, but it will likely be sooner than later as filming is reportedly set to start next year.

"Uncharted" follows a treasure hunter named Nathan "Nate" Drake who journeys to exotic locations across the world with his compatriots to uncover historical mysteries. Directed by "Stranger Things" producer Shawn Levy, Sony has yet to give "Uncharted" a release date.
