'Uncharted 4: A Thief's End' development has 'gone gold'; game to be released soon

 Sony/Naughty Dog

The long anticipation for "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" will soon be over, after Naughty Dog announced that the game has finally "gone gold."

The announcement was made via the game developer's official Twitter account, where the term "gone gold" was used to reveal the status of the game.

The term "going gold" means that the major part of the game's development is already finished, and it will soon be sent to the disc manufacturing phase to put the game on CD before it can finally head to retail stores for distribution.

Naughty Dog announced during Sony's presentation at E3 2014 that "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" would be released in 2015, but it was later on delayed to March 18, 2016 to allow developers to further improve the game. Then the developers further delayed the release to April 26 to fine-tune the other details of the fourth and final installment from the highly popular "Uncharted" game franchise.

Before announcing the status of the game's development, Naughty Dog uploaded a behind-the-scenes documentary dubbed "Growing Up with Drake," where the development team and the voice actors discussed the process used in making "Uncharted 4."

According to "Uncharted" director Neil Druckmann, "All we can really do as a team is make something that's really personal to us [and] use everything that we've learned in the past to... elevate the medium one step further, to challenge ourselves to go into areas that we're uncomfortable with, and we do that with every game."

"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is reportedly following the events after "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception." Lead character Nathan Drake, who earlier ended his career as a professional fortune hunter, will attempt to lead a normal, more stable life with his wife Elena Fisher. But circumstances will take him back to his old life when his older brother Sam reappears and asks him to help find the treasures of Libertalia. But will the Drake brothers manage to get what they are looking for?

"Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is expected to reach store shelves on May 10.
