Although the next season of HBO's "True Detective" will be aired without the first season's stars, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, fans still have a lot to look forward to. Vince Vaughn, one of the main actors of "True Detective" season 2, told Playboy Magazine during an interview last month that the new season is different from the first one.

"I thought Woody and Matthew did an exceptional job with the first season. This one's very different, though. It's a totally different story, with its own characters. The thing that's consistent is the richness of the characters and the quality of the material," the comedian shared.

Unlike his former funny roles in comedy films like "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story," "Wedding Crashers," "The Break-Up" and "Couples Retreat," Vaughn will portray Frank Semyon, a dark ruthless antagonist,  in "True Detective" season 2.

"I really like my character. Nic (Pizzolatto) is so great about investigating characters and their complexities in an authentic and engaging way. I want to watch this show not because I'm in it, but as a fan of the material," the actor said.

Joining Vaughn in the highly anticipated follow-up of the original HBO series are A-list actors Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, Taylor Kitsch as Paul Woodrugh, and Rachel McAdams as Ani Bezzarides.

The plot for the "True Detective" season 2 centers on three police officers portrayed by Farrell, Kitsch, and McAdams who are caught in a tight situation with a career criminal, portrayed by Vaughn. Farrell's character is torn between his loyalty to the corrupt police department that he works for and serving Vaughn's character, who practically owns him. Meanwhile, a California Highway Patrol officer played by Kitsch has to clear his name from a scandal that never happened, and McAdams' character is the no-nonsense detective who becomes involved with the others.

"True Detective" season 2 is slated to air sometime in summer.
