Survival side-scrolling game "This War of Mine" is getting a series of brand-new story-driven downloadable content packs. The first of the DLCs "Father's Promise" was released on Nov. 15 and is currently available for purchase on Steam for $2.

The remaining DLCs in the series will reportedly be released slowly sometime in 2018.

"Father's Promise" puts players in the shoes of a man named Adam. Set in the same war-torn world as the original game. Adam and his daughter must survive the terrors of war as they try to leave the besieged city they are currently trapped in. Here is the official synopsis on the game's Steam page.

"Become Adam - a father trying to save his daughter from the horrors of war and leave the besieged city. Follow their steps and discover a story of love, hate, and sacrifice - the emotions we all share in the darkest of days. DLC offers a brand new, distinctive experience with additional game mechanics and several hours of thought-provoking gameplay. It is also the opening of the first season of This War of Mine: Stories. The next episodes will follow in 2018."

Other things the latest DLC has to offer are a story based on an audio drama written by famous Polish author Lukasz Orbitowski, four new locations, and five remastered locations.

Aside from the brand new settings to visit, the DLC will reportedly include brand new game mechanics involving the dialogue system and the clue searching system as well.

"This War of Mine" was first released in November of 2015. The game focused on a group of civilians trying to survive wartime. Players took control of a small group of survivors and the gameplay segments were divided into item management and base building sections during the day and scavenging and fighting segments during the night.

The goal of the game was to survive several days until the war eventually comes to an end.
